Definition Progressive Rock?
Ok, I sought answers from Yahoo for this for a simple definition, but what is specific to progressive rock. I searched prog files and wiki, but gave me a very technical definition. I listened to Genesis, Camel, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Tool, Jethro Tull, Porcupine Tree, etc etc etc, but I've noticed that people who apply for the Advancement of some songs from Iron Maiden as the maker of rain, Trooper, Brave New World, etc etc. To my his is a blend of classical, jazz, blues, folk and the song is without limits and usually have some kind of story to tell. However, some of Prog consider music songs are repetitive and have choruses and limitations as any other music. Just by listening I've trained my ears to recognize songs Proggish but not enough for me. Prog appears to be a large part of a general term. My grammar is terrible, but its 3 am. Well .. I can hear the difference, but its too hard to describe in words.
Believe me when I tell you this Q has been asked and debated for years. I am a member of a forum Progressive rock is a big joke, when somebody comes and asks. There is 1 response to this. In addition, long compositions (with or without lyrics) are common. They are sometimes divided into "suites". & Finally, unless one of the big bands of the 70 that you mentioned, are generally things that you never hear on mainstream radio today.

Genesis Archive #2 1976-1992 $40.87 Genesis pulled off one of rock’s most successful chameleon acts, making an unlikely segue from prog rockers to MOR staples–imagine Rush morphing into Hootie & the Blowfish. Indeed, it was hard enough to imagine who could even fill the shoes of an illus… |
